Dufferin Subway Station
Project: Toronto Dufferin Subway Station rehabilitation and public art project (TTC)
Client: SPMB (architect, artist, design)
Designer/Architect: Eduardo Aquino
Our Contribution: cut and create tiles with anchors
Mixed throughout the subway are these stainless steel and copper tiles which are utilized as a public art project along with rehabilitation that was underway. The intention was to make the art and architecture integrated rather than being of a separate nature.
Both the copper and stainless steel were waterjet cut separately and affixed to plating and wall anchors. The tiles were designed to be vandal-proof without compromising the artistic qualities intended for the project. In this project and others like it, the concern of dissimilar metals is accounted for in the design to remove as much risk from the exchange of electrons leading to corrosion.
