LaSalle College – Perforated Panels, Railings & Indigenous Art

Project: LaSalle College – Perforated Panels, Railings & Indigenous Artwork

Client: LaSalle College Vancouver, BC
General Contractor: Norson Construction
Architect/Design Partner: Toad Design
Structural Engineer: LDA

The new LaSalle College Vancouver campus, opening in 2025, is a purpose-built hub for design, technology, and the arts, offering more than 35 creative programs. StateCraft Architectural Fabricators contributed key architectural featuresthat reflect both technical precision and cultural identity.

Our scope included custom aluminum panels with complex perforated patterns, steel and aluminum railings engineered for safety and cohesion, and the fabrication and installation of Indigenous artwork—most notably a Sun panel symbolizing illumination, inclusivity, and growth. These elements were designed, fabricated, and installed by StateCraft to align with the college’s mission of fostering creativity, culture, and community.

This project required the challenging design, fabrication, and installation of complex panels, custom railings, and Indigenous artwork—each element demanding precision and close collaboration across trades. Among the most striking features are the floating perforated panels, installed at varying angles to achieve a seamless “floating” effect, and the multi-layer welded panels that create a dramatic “waterfall” transition from horizontal to vertical surfaces. By prefabricating and managing these complex installations, StateCraft ensured safety, accuracy, efficiency, and seamless integration of design into the built environment.

Architectural Feature Highlights:

- Custom Aluminum Panels – Complex design and fabrication with perforated patterns merging art with architecture. Panels up to 20 ft long and 4 ft wide were installed at varying angles to create a seamless “floating” effect. Random perforation patterns conceal panel gaps, while minimized, color-matched hardware ensures a refined finish.

- Guardrails – Perforated aluminum panels with concealed fasteners and custom-designed anchors deliver strength, safety, and a smooth, see-through architectural finish.

- Waterfall Effect – Custom multi-layer welded panels at vertical stops and glazing joints create a dramatic “waterfall” transition from horizontal to vertical surfaces.

- Steel & Aluminum Railings – Engineered for safety, durability, and seamless integration with the overall design.

- Indigenous Artwork Integration – Precision-fabricated Indigenous art, including the Sun panel, honors cultural heritage and anchors the campus in community and creativity.

- Design-to-Install Delivery – StateCraft managed the full process, from engineering through installation, ensuring safety, accuracy, efficiency, and cohesion across trades.

The result is a campus where architecture, art, and education converge—anchoring the institution in cultural resonance and creative purpose.
