Métis Sash – Affordable Housing, Mixed-Use, Indigenous Art
Project: "Métis Sash" Installation – Quality Affordable Housing, Mixed-Use Development
Client: Manitoba Métis Federation
General Contractor: MBuilds Canada
Architect: Number Ten Architectural Group
Structural Engineer: LDA Engineers
The "Métis Sash" installation is a key feature of the Manitoba Métis Federation's (MMF) mixed-use residential development, which aims to provide quality affordable housing to Métis citizens. This art installation, consisting of 1,500 aluminum tiles of varying colors, is mounted to galvanized and powder-coated HSS steel, reflecting the traditional Red River Métis sash pattern. The design celebrates Métis heritage while enhancing the cultural and aesthetic value of the development.
StateCraft prefabricated and installed the aluminum tiles, which were fastened to aluminum backplates. The panels were then mounted to galvanized HSS steel, which was securely attached to the wall. This efficient process minimized disruptions on-site and ensured timely project completion.
